What this entry covers

The General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council, sets the EU rules for processing personal data and has applied since 25 May 2018. It applies to controllers and processors established in the EU, and to those outside the EU that offer goods or services to, or monitor the behaviour of, people in the EU. National supervisory authorities enforce it, and the European Data Protection Board works to keep its application consistent.
