What this entry covers
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), published by the PCI Security Standards Council, sets technical and operational requirements to protect payment account data. It applies to any entity that stores, processes or transmits cardholder data, including health care organizations that take card payments. Whether an entity must comply with or validate compliance is at the discretion of organizations that manage compliance programs, such as payment brands and acquirers.
